Our objective is to bring together leading audiovisual translation scholars and to provide them with a venue todiscuss their research and share ideas. The major themes to be covered at Intermedia 2017 include:

  • audiovisual translation as an accessibility tool (through audio description, respeaking, SDHH)
  • experimental research in AVT
  • methodologies of AVT research
  • bridging the gap between theory and practice
  • technological developments in AVT
  • translation quality assessment
  • teaching and training audiovisual translators

INTERMEDIA 2017 will be followed by the ADLAB PRO Multiplier Event, a half-day workshop held on 27 September 2017 devoted to audio description training organized as part of the European project ADLAB PRO Audio Description: A Laboratory for the Development of the New Professional Profile. The workshop will present the project’s results of the assessment of current AD training practices and the profile of an audio description expert. We aim to involve various stakeholders (trainers and teachers offering audio description and audiovisual translation training, AD users and providers) in a discussion about efficient training techniques, training needs and skills desired from an AD professional.
