Students of South African Specialisation at LAF Film Festival

We are happy to say that our involvement with the the Letnia Akademia Filmowa’s South African Focus has went very well. The students of the South African Specialisation translated several South African films for viewings at the LAF film festival from 6-15 August.

The list of films, on which our staff consulted, also impressed South African film experts, and provided an interesting perspective of the history of the South African film industry. Once the biggest film industry in the world (before the rise of Hollywood), it produced films such as Bou van ‘n Nasie (the building of a nation) which still rank among the biggest budget epics in history.

A special focus was placed on Jamie Uys’s career. His subtle comedies, produced over four decades, managed to simultaneously entertain a changing South African society, and are still enjoyed today.
This project was more than a handy way to earn holiday spending money, providing our students with valuable practical experience. And of course we are happy to be involved with all things South African happening in Poland. We thank LAF, and especially mr Shamek Stepien of Afrykamera.pl, for the opportunity!
