About us

CLASH conference (Culture, Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, History) from the very beginning aimed to associate scholars of humanities from Poland and abroad. By choosing the topics common for many disciplines such as literary studies, cultural studies, anthropology, social sciences, or history, we tried to create a place for discussion on issues, which, on the one hand, provide a link between disciplines, but on the other, provide a clash of disparate points of view. The interdisciplinary nature of the project allowed us to create a team, which became an important platform for the cooperation between four institutes (School of English, Institute of German Philology, Institute of Roman Languages, Institute of Russian Philology) within the realm of the Faculty of Modern Languages. This cooperation resulted in 2012 in the first edition of CLASH conference under the title Clash/es and New Beginning/s in Literature and Culture.

Since then, CLASH has developed into a project which comprises three Faculties of Adam Mickiewicz University: Faculty of English, Faculty of Modern Languages (including the Institute of German Philology, The Institute of Roman Languages Philology, and the Institute of Russian and Ukrainian Philologies) and Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology. The new aim of the conference is to create a place for philologists and scholars from other disciplines of humanities, irrespective of the academic affiliation, who due to the ongoing atomisation of humanities have not many occasions to present their research results to the audience not closely connected with their area of study. We hope that CLASH will become a place for an interdisciplinary, of not transdisciplinary, discussion on the chosen topics; that it will allow the participants to become aware of the academic level of other disciplines; that it will reunite the academic environment of humanities.
