The acclaimed South African writer will give a guest lecture about The Number Gangs in South Africa and also talk about his recent creative endeavors.
Tertius Kapp is a writer based in South Africa. He works mainly in film and theatre, where his work is well-known for its unflinching approach to challenging subject matter. He went to school in Cape Town, then studied at the University of Stellenbosch, originally doing a BA, then a B.Sc, completing a Honours B.Sc degree in Physics. He later also obtained an MA in Creative Writing ("Kreatiewe Skryfkunde") in the Department of Afrikaans.
He worked freelance, spent a few years in the television industry appearing on many documentary programmes and television series, after which he lectured in the Department of Dutch and South African Studies at Adam Mickiecz University in Poznań, Poland for four years, then became a lecturer in the Department of Afrikaans at Fort Hare University.
In film he is best known for the adaptation of the bestseller Dis ek, Anna, while his most notable play was the multiple award-winning Rooiland. His work has won several awards, the most recent being the prestigious Hertzog prize for literature, for his two published plays (Rooiland and Oorsee).
