Speakers’ Corner
March 27th. Room 152. Chemicum.
Speakers’ Corner is an ideal opportunity for students to come and talk with native teachers in a relaxed environment - conversing and discussing various topics and issues that are often not covered in the normal speaking syllabus.
This year, I am actively looking for students to lead the topic of conversation by encouraging the participants to think of any topic of their choice. Students who wish to lead a discussion must come and speak to Mr Harris in order to get approval and ideas.
The talks will take place in Chemicum, room 152 on the last Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm; starting in March. There will be a monthly meeting chaired by different native teachers. (A schedule will be available shortly as to when other native teachers wish to arrange meetings.)
So as to make the atmosphere relaxed and conducive to speaking, tea or coffee will be available. I would also encourage students to bring in some home made foods, such as cakes or biscuits. I myself shall endeavour to rustle something up from the kitchen, I am quite renowned for my gastronomic skills.
As places are very limited, all those who want to take part must sign up with Mr. Harris. This can be done during Friday’s duty hour room 204.
It is important to point out that this is ‘speakers’,’ corner, not ‘listeners’,’ corner, therefore only committed participants are encouraged to apply. The aim of the meeting is to talk, and practice speaking skills in English - this means that the success of each meeting relies entirely on the efforts of the participants.
