The first of a series of eight ELT presentations / workshops organized by the Center for English Language Teaching Materials at IFA in the academic year 2007/2008 will take place on Friday, October 26th 2007 at 4 p.m. room 601A.
The presentation will be given by dr Magdalena Wrembel
Title : Innovative trends in L2 pronunciation pedagogy
OR
how to add 'colour' to your pronunciation teaching
The workshop aims at presenting an overview of innovative techniques and multidisciplinary approaches to the teaching of foreign language pronunciation including:
-
drama voice techniques,
-
holistic and autonomous learning (e.g. self-study guidelines),
-
sound symbolism,
-
multisensory modes of presentation and practice,
-
techniques adapted from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (e.g. relaxation, suggestion, visualisation),
-
computer assisted pronunciation learning.
I intend to focus on alternative classroom practices that can be supplementary to mainstream teaching procedures.
Moreover, suggestions will be made how to incorporate selected aspects of pronunciation instruction into general English classes, especially in the form of awareness raising exercises and providing feedback on students' oral production. Finally, I will make recommendations concerning some available resources, i.e. pronunciation teaching materials and Internet sites.
It is hoped that this EFL presentation will provide the participants with practical insights into a variety of effective pronunciation teaching techniques and resources, and thus help them expand their repertoire of traditional classroom practices and, consequently, enhance pronunciation instruction.
Attendance is obligatory for all PNJA teachers and for doctoral students at IFA, but everyone concerned about their professional development is welcome as well.
