A public talk by Billy Kay

As his nation prepares for a referendum on independence (to take place in September 2014), the distinguished Scottish writer and broadcaster Billy Kay explores themes of Scottish cultural and political identity through language, literature, and the country's relationship with its far-flung diaspora. Billy will illustrate the talk with audio clips from his award-winning BBC radio documentaries.

Billy Kay is a famous Scottish researcher, journalist, broadcaster and writer, the author of Odyssey: Voices from Scotland's Recent Past (1980), Scots: The Mither Tongue (1986), Knee Deep in Claret: A Celebration of Wine, France and Scotland (1983). His most recent book tells the story of the Scottish diaspora: The Scottish World (2006). He cooperates with the BBC and has won several prestigious awards for radio documentaries, including The Oliver Award by The Scots Independent and the Heritage Society Award for his promotion of the Scottish culture. He is the Honorary President of the Scots Language Society and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland. He has spoken at the 250th Robert Burns Anniversary at the Library of Congress in Washington, and now he comes to Poznań, following in the footsteps of the continental Scottish diaspora.
