The open lecture, entitled “Inaction during a humanitarian crisis: Is it equivalent to siding with the strongest?”, will take place during YLMP 2018 Special Event, and will be organized in cooperation with the Kulczyk Foundation.
Abstract of the lecture:
"To say that a war or other humanitarian crises are too complex is the easiest excuse of all - the excuse for doing nothing. But inaction in such a case is not really an inaction, it is equivalent to siding with the strongest” - these are the words of one of the most prominent female frontline reporters - Francesca Borri, whom I brought in to Aleppo as the last foreign correspondent there. During the lecture, I will talk about the engagement of self into helping others, through humanitarian aid and frontline journalism.
Michał Przedlacki (International Projects Expert, Kulczyk Foundation) - for 15 years now, an envoy of aid organizations to conflict zones, and a documentarian. Among other things, he introduced international humanitarian aid effort to war-ravaged Aleppo and stayed there for more than half a year. He is a veteran of humanitarian operations of six contemporary wars (Syria, Iraq, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Somalia), where he established and led aid teams on the ground. He has both coordinated delivery of life-saving assistance to civilians and negotiated access for other aid organizations. Michał Przedlacki is a winner of the Grand Press award for the best TV coverage of the year, the Kazimierz Dziewanowski’s Award of the Polish Journalists Society for the best coverage on an international matter, and a director of a documentary “Aleppo. Notes from the Dark”.
