Professor Wojciech Lipoński attending the first session of the UNESCO Permanent Consultative Council
On November 12, 2008, the first session of the newly established Permanent Consultative Council of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) was held in the Salle Coubertin in the IOC seat in Lausanne, Switzerland. Professor Wojciech Lipoński, who had earlier been appointed a member of the Council, attended the session, representing Adam Mickiewicz University. The PCC members include such prominent figures as Dr Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee; Wataru Iwamoto, Director of the UNESCO Division of Social Sciences, Research and Policy; Rose-Marie Repond, President of the European Physical Education Association; Ingrid Beutler from the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace and many others. The Council consists of thirty members and will meet twice a year. The next session will most likely take place in the same venue in Lausanne in the first half of 2009. The Council’s main objective is development of scientific and methodological projects for the UNESCO-CIGEPS.
