We are happy to announce that the 38th Poznań Linguistic Meeting (PLM2007) will take place on 13-16 September 2007 in Gniezno, Poland. The Meeting will be organised by the School of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań.
New dates
Please note that PLM2007 will take place in September rather than in April, as used to be our tradition.
New venue
Collegium Europaeum Gnesnense, our new venue, is located in the city of Gniezno (see below). The main CEG building has lecture halls, computer labs, and offices. The CEG campus also contains a dining-hall and a dormitory with 100 beds in single and double rooms, each with a private bathroom. The campus is located within walking distance (20 minutes) from the city centre. Accommodation in a high-standard hotel in the city centre is also available.
You can see photos of the venue here.
Gniezno is a city of about 70,000 inhabitants, located some 50 km east of Poznań. It boasts a history of over a thousand years, having been the first capital of Poland in the 10th and 11th centuries. The city centre contains the magnificent 14th-century Gniezno Cathedral, while several tourist routes traverse the surrounding scenic countryside.
Sessions
The leitmotif of the 38th PLM will be Linguistic topics at the start of the new century: an overview. The aim of PLM 2007 is to provide an overview of current topics in linguistics in the first decade of the 21st century. Proposals of papers in any field of modern linguistics are welcome. This includes both theoretical and applied linguistics as well as interdisciplinary research.
So far, five thematic sessions have been proposed:
- Slavic phonotactics (Organisers: Eugeniusz Cyran and Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk)
- Celtic languages – their description and impact (Organiser: Sabine Heinz)
- The dynamics of speech and formal phonology (Organiser: Geoffrey Schwartz)
- Anglicisms (Organiser: Marcin Kilarski)
- North American dialects (Organiser: Radosław Dylewski)
Papers for these sessions are warmly invited; however, we also strongly encourage all colleagues interested in organising their own sessions/workshops to contact us with ideas and proposals. Each paper will be given 30 minutes, including 5–10 minutes for discussion. Poster presentations are also an option. The language of the conference is English. The submissions will be reviewed by our International Advisory Board.
Submission deadline: 1 May 2007
Notification of acceptance: 1 June 2007
Main talks confirmed so far
Prof. Helen Aristar-Dry (Eastern Michigan University; Linguist List Moderator)
Prof. Dennis Preston (Michigan State University)
