AMERICAN LITERATURE READING CLUB AT IFA
BEYOND CANONS
invites everyone to our first meeting
on Contemporary American Literature
At the first meeting we are going to discuss
David Markson’s
Wittgenstein’s Mistress (1988)
"- 'Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen' – a story of a woman who is apparently the only person left on Earth, a meditation of solitude, and an increasing un-memory and dissociation of associations, written in a laid-back and strangulated language that tries to retain any coherent and stable reference, a novel compared, at one breath, with Gillman’s “Yellow Wallpaper” and Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, and a contemporary version of Thoreau’s Walden, taken to its most logical and self-defying consequences.
E-text available on request: visit the Facebook account of the American Literature Reading Club; a paper copy available in the Club folder in the Novum library.
TIME: November 28th, 2011, 7pm
VENUE: 201A, Collegium Novum
Hosts: Paulina Ambroży and Paweł Stachura
Discussions in English or Polish (depending on the will of the participants)
