Professor Charles Wankel, of St. John’s University in New York, will discuss learning activities in Second Life. Among the topics covered will be a description of assignments for students to locate, meet, and interview Second Life business people. His approach is to encourage them to locate the avatar names of targets in other social media. He will show many screenshots of his students conducting interviews and comment on excerpts from them. He is also constructing assignments related to having learners investigate uses of the virtual world interface to help disabled people (both physically and emotionally handicapped people). Part of this is locating and assessing current resources for the disabled in Second Life.
This event is organized by the Department of Computer Assisted English Linguistics. The venue is room 601a.
