Canadian Literature in Perspective Reading Group (CLiP) cordially invites everyone interested in literature to a discussion of Billy-Ray Belcourt’s poetry and essays! During the meeting, we will look at selected poems from Belcourt’s two collections as well as several essays from his recently published A History of My Brief Body.
Everybody’s welcome!
Billy-Ray Belcourt is a writer and academic from the Driftpile Cree Nation. His debut book of poems This Wound is a World (2017) won him the Griffin Poetry Prize, making him the youngest ever winner. Belcourt’s second poetry collection NDN Coping Mechanisms: Notes from the field was published in 2019 to great acclaim.
A History of my Brief Body - "essays and vignettes of grief, colonial violence, joy, love, and queerness” - was published in August 2020. It is currently shortlisted for a 2021 Lambda Literary Award for Gay Memoir/Biography and for a Governor General’s Literary Award for non-fiction.
The meeting will take place on
