Colonel Bird,
Sir,
I beg leave to represent to
you that I came out with the Party attached to Mr.. C.
Crause, from whom I have received a Discharge, as
also a note from Captn. Trapes to a similar effect _
I am sorry to represent to you Sir, that since I
have been in this Colony, I have unfortunately ruptured
myself, not having ever been accustomed to the
laborious work I am now under the necessity of performing
_ I have a Wife and two Children in London,
who have objected to accompany me here, in consequence
of the unfavourable reports received in London, notwithstanding
His Excellency has been kind enough to communicate
with the Colonial Office in London upon the
subject _ From the above circumstances, I am now
resolved to proceed to London, provided I cannot procure
some eligible Situation in Cape Town, and I humbly
request Sir, that you will be kind enough to
afford me a Colonial Pass for the performance of the
same _ I am now in the employ of Mr.. Hunt, Markham
House, Port Elizabeth, and subscribe myself,
