Field, Thomas

To His Excellency Major General Sir
Rufane Shawe Donkin K.C.B.
Commander in chief &c &c &c
The Memorial of Thomas Feild
humbly sheweth
That your Memorialist came
to this colony as a settler, under the direction
of William Cocks, that memorialists
wife, on the passage out, caught a violent cold,
which settled upon her, and has nearly deprived
her of the use of her Limbs; memorialist has
used every means for the restoration of her health,
but to no effect, and it being the oppinion of
the Medical Officer at Bathurst, that the
want of proper shelter, joined to the want of
nourishments, is the only thing that prevents
her recovery. Memorialist most humbly
implores your Excellencys permission to
proceed to Cape Town, where Memorialists
Wife may enjoy the benefit of those nourishments
that are not to be had here, and
which would no doubt be the means of reestablishing
her health

And your Memorialist will as in
duty bound ever pray.
