Settlers, and residents of
Grahams Town in the
District of Albany
Humbly Sheweth
That your Memorialists
having obtained the grant of a small
piece

piece of Land in Grahams Town
and having by great Industry and
frugality built a House thence
that in the year 1822 your first
Memorialist did Sell to the
second assigned the same piece of
Land on condition of receiving the
purchase Money when the Diagram
should be obtained; that your
Memorialists were not in the least
aware that they were acting contrary
to Law, in not having paid the Duty
on the Sale within the first Six
Months but being in constant
expectation of receiving the said
Diagram by every Post they were
through absolute ignorance led
to believe the said Duty was not
required until that time; that
having now obtained the said
Diagram

Diagram they applied to pay the
Duty on Rds 1245. that Sum being
the full Amount of the Purchase
upon which Your Memorialists
were informed they had treble
Duty to pay; Your Memorialists
do therefore Humbly pray that
Your Excellency will be pleased
in your wonted Goodness to remit
the said treble and permit your
Memorialists to be intitled to
Transfer upon paying the single
Duty
And your Memorialists as in
duty will ever pray _
