The Memorial of Thomas Manby,
(Farmer of Liversages Party of Settlers,
Most humbly & respectfuly Sheweth _
That your Memorialist in
spite of great losses on his Location
(among the rest 50 Head of Cattle
taken by the Caffrees) has Succeeded
by the unremitting industry of
himself and family in accumulating
a Stock of 80 head of Cattle _ that
being situated on the road between
Grahams Town and the Kowie,
your Memorialist has also
erected a Substantial Stone House
of 56 by 17 feet, which he intends
to employ as an Inn, but from

his other necessary expenditure,
finds himself utterly unable to
Roof it in, without disposing of
Stock, and thus depriving himself
of his means of Support. _
Memorialist therefore humbly
prays that your Excellency will be
pleased to allow him to be assisted
with a Loan to the amount of
Eight Hundred Rix Dollars , (800)
for which your Memorialist can
give such Security as your Excellency
may be pleased to require _
And your Memorialist will be ever
as in duty bound to pray _
