May it Please Your Excellency,
The Memorial of Richard Halstead most
Humbly and Respecfully Sheweth. That he came out
to this Colony in the Party of Mr Hayhurst from whom
in consequence of a representation to Your Excellency
he was discharged and obtained a Colonial Pass.
Your Memorialist is a Dyer by Trade with
a Wife and 4 helpless Children to maintain and Nourish .
On his arrival at this Town he was in anxious expectation
of getting some employment in the business he has
been most lamentably dissappointed. A Train of Missfortunes
have constantly himself and Indigent Family for
prior to your Memorialist leaving Algoa Bay he was
Robbed of a Box containing their clothes and All. and
upon their arrival Cape Town but for the benevolence
of a few charitable individuals they must have Perished
Your Memorialist is in a very bad state of
health the climate not agreeing with his constitution
with a Mind broken and Depressed with the troubles that
himself & wretched Family have encounterd. Severed from
Kindred or Friends to aid or support him under those
accumulated Trials. Your Memorialist most fervently
implores that Your Excellency in your wonted benevolence
and humanity will be graciously Pleased to
grant Your Memorialist a Passage for himself and
Family to their native Country on any Conditions
as they are in the utmost Distress .
