Gilfillan, William

Thornhill, Albany.
26th Octr 1824

My Lord
In consiquency of the liberal
incouragement which your Lordship has
invariably givn _ for the improvement of
the breed of horses in this colony I have taken
the liberty of addressing you
Induced by the circumstance of the
Orvill horse being sent to Grahams town
for the purpose of covering I expended a
considerable sum in the purchase of
Mares several of which were covered by
him but unfortunately not one has
proved to be in Foal So that I have not
only lost the season _ but the sum I paid
for Covering _ In consiquency of there being
now no stallion _ in the neighbourhood
I find myself under the necessity of either
purchasing

one, or sacrificing my mares _ the former I
fear is out of my power unless I am kindly
assisted by your Lordship _ Could I procure
a loan _ of two Thousand dollars from the
Lombard Bank on Interest, it would be
more than adequate together with the
funds at present in my possession, the
value of which which will amount to cover
durably more than the Sum required to
be given as security, as also the additional
stock which I propose purchasing _ or if
required personal security will be given
with every reliance on Your Lordships
generosity
I have the Honor to be
Your Lordships
Most obdt Huml Servt
W Gilfillan
