Lord Charles Somerset _ Governor of the
Cape of Good Hope &c &c . &c
May it please Your Excellency
The Memorial of Jane Erith humbly
Sheweth
That on Thursday last the 14th Instant. Memorialist
transmitted a Letter to the Secretary to Government,
informing him, of the situation her Family then stood,
which communication Sir Richard Plasket was so good
as to say he would inform Your Excellency of that Evening
Memorialist waited with the greatest anxiety on the
following day from Eleven till four Oclock. being told
Your Excellency would be in Town, wether Your Excellency
was informed of it on Your Arrival, or thro the Multiplicity
of Business it was forgotten I leave, but at present it
remains unanswered, I have therefore concisely to state
that my Family is in want of Bread, for on my leaving
the Colonial Office Yesterday, if I had not borrowed 2Rds of
a Widow to purchase it, I should not have had one Other to
have releaved their Hungar, having left them in the Morning
with only one double loaf of Brown Bread . . I make no
comments _
Willing as I am to undertake any means for
their future provision, without Capital Your Excellency
must know it is impossiable to Succeed _ I therefore
take the liberty to state, that if Your Excellency will
be pleased
be pleased to order me a Grant of 600 rds. on Intrest, I
can engage in a concerne, which by Industry will provide
for their future sustenance, or if Your Excellency will
be pleased to point out any other way, as far as my Health
and Strength will permit, I will with pleasure acquiesce
And Memorialist
Will Ever pray
