Colling, Thomas

Sir George Osborne
Symons Bay
Honourable Sir
I was originally accepted by the
British Government at the head of one hundred
Settlers going out to the Cape of good hope in the
Aurora Captn Pearson, and the Brilliant Captn
Bothwell, but in consequence of the sale of an
Estate I was prevented sailing out with them,
I therefore surrenderd my apartment in
favour of Mr Sephton, and sent out my Sons
John, Thomas and William Collings, and some
of my property in the Brilliant, intending to
follow as soon as possible, I therefore saild with
the remainder of my family in the Sir George
Osborne, Captn Taplin, John Thompson Leutn
Agent, on my arrival at Symons Bay I unexpectedly
met with the Aurora & Brilliant; on
their return from Algoa Bay, when Captn Bothwell
informed me that part of my property had been
sent from Symons Bay to Cape Town
I therefore humbly solicit permission
duering the interval of watering the Ship &c &c
to go to Cape Town to give such directions, as
may be necessary for the future disposal thereof,
as I conceive it will be attended with various
ilconveniences and expense if I shall be under
the necessity of losing the present opportunity

your compliance with my request will
be esteemed a particular favour, I therefore
remain anctiously waiting the necessary orders
being given for the same
I remain Respectfully
Your Obedient humble Servt
Thomas Colling
