Martinson, George

Port Elizabeth 2\nd../ May 1821 /
Colonel Bird, /
Sir, /
I beg leave to represent to /
you that I came out with the Party attached to M\r../ C. /
Crause, from whom I have received a Discharge, as /
also a note from Capt\n./ Trapes to a similar effect _ /
I am sorry to represent to you Sir, that since I /
have been in this Colony, I have unfortunately rup=tured /
myself, not having ever been accustomed to the /
laborious work I am now under the neces+sity of perform=ing /
_ I have a Wife and two Children in London, /
who have objected to accompany me here, in consequence /
of the unfavourable reports received in London, notwith=standing /
His Excellency has been kind enough to com=municate /
with the Colonial Office in London upon the /
subject _ From the above circumstances, I am now /
resolved to proceed to London, provided I cannot pro=cure /
some eligible Situation in Cape Town, and I hum=bly /
request Sir, that you will be kind enough to /
afford me a Colonial Pas+s for the performance of the /
same _ I am now in the employ of M\r../ Hunt, Mark=ham /
House, Port Elizabeth, and subscribe myself, /
Sir, /
Your very obedient, humble Servant, /
George Martinson /
