Coyle, Elizabeth

East Indian Simon’s Bay / May 5\th/ 1820 /

Sir /

In hope of landing with M\r/ and M\rs/ /
Seton I neglected making any communication to the /
Governor tho’ imperiously called on by circumstan=ces /
. I have been oppres+sed _ insulted _ actually thrown /
out of my birth (under pretence of making room for a /
sick woman _ tho ‘ there is a Sick Bay for such people) /
and would have been obliged to sleep out among the /
men in the Great Cabin but for the humanity of /
Mr Seton who left his bed for me /
I take the liberty of mentioning to you that /
lest any complaint of mine should be attended to /
Parker on Sunday morning got a Certificate of insanity /
from Dr Holditchh to my prejudice and (if I be rightly /
informed) had it signed by a young Man of the name /
of Barch who tho’ profes+sing medical knowledge _ has /
taken out no diploma _ I enclose to you Sir a /
statement /
Colonel Bird /
Colonial Secretary /
Cape Town /
>
I made for the satisfaction of M\r/ M\c/Cleland /
(upon his humane and iterical interference /
in my concern at his request /

I have the honour to be /
Sir /
your most obe\t/ humble /
Servant /
Eliza Coyle /
