Humbly Sheweth /
That your Memorialists /
having obtained the grant of a small /
piece /

piece of Land in Grahams Town /
and having by great Industry and /
frugality built a House thence /
that in the year 1822 your first /
Memorialist did Sell to the /
second as+signed the same piece of /
Land on condition of receiving the /
purchase Money when the Diagram /
should be obtained; that your /
Memorialists were not in the least /
aware that they were acting contrary /
to Law, in not having paid the Duty /
on the Sale within the first Six /
Months but being in constant /
expectation of receiving the said /
Diagram by every Post they were /
through absolute ignorance led /
to believe the said Duty was not /
required until that time; that /
having now obtained the said /
Diagram /

Diagram they applied to pay the /
Duty on Rds 1245. that Sum being /
the full Amount of the Purchase /
upon which Your Memorialists /
were informed they had treble /
Duty to pay; Your Memorialists /
do therefore Humbly pray that /
Your Excellency will be pleased /
in your wonted Goodnes+s to remit /
the said treble and permit your /
Memorialists to be intitled to /
Transfer upon paying the single /
Duty /
And your Memorialists as in /
duty will ever pray _ /
