Woodcock, Robert

Cape Town /
11 Nov. 1824 /
Sir /
I beg leave respectfully to mention /
for the information of His Excellency the /
Governor, that the post Office at /
Clanwilliam appears to be conducted /
in a very irregular manner, where=by /
the public confidence in that /
establishment is likely to be greatly /
dimished if not destroyed. /
The postmaster M\r/ Bergh acknow=ledges /
having broken open 7+ supres+sed /
a letter written by me and address+sed /
to O. M. Bergh Esg\r./ Four 7+ twenty /
Rivers /
M\r/ Bergh very seldom attends /
to the receipt or delivery of letters it /
being instrusted to different persons /
and conducted in different and /
uncertain parts of the Village /
Letters have sometimes been /
hither in by a Servant maid, (a /
Bastard Hottentot) in the absence of /
any more proper person for the per=formance /
of this duty. /
I have the honor to be /
Sir /
Your Obedient Servant /
R [Woodcock] /
P. G. Brink Esq\r./ /
Acting Colonial Secretary /
