Martinson, George

Markhaim House /
May 14\th/ 1821./
Sir, /
The Honor of your Excellency’s /
kindnes+s, I have experienced, when I applied /
to you last June at Grahams’ Town, will /
never be forgot by me. /
I applied to have my Wife and Children /
sent out to me at the Government expence, /
it not being in /my\ power to pay their passage /
here, you considered my case as distressing, /
for our Ship the Nautilus, run on the /
Goodwin Sands, expecting to go to pieces, /
my Wife and Children were to have come /
on board, at Deal or Portsmouth, but owing /
to this accident we put out to Sea with=out /
stopping at either place. /
Your Excellency pitied my case, say=ing /
you would communicate with the /
Colonial Office, but I have received a /
Letter from my Wife, who with her family /
are in great distres+s, she applied to the /
Colonial Office, but M[\r]/ Goulbourn in /
reply says , he is not warranted in send=ing /
my family out at the Government /
expence _ Since I have been in the Colony /
I have ruptured myself so as almost to /
prevent manual labor_ /
I hope your Excellency will take my /
sake into consideration, to grant me a /
Pass, to my distressed Wife and Children /
I beg to remain Your Excellency’s /
Obt, Humble Servant, /
G. Martinson. /
