Spanish Reid May 26\th/ .. 1820 /
Sir, /
It is with the utmost Regret; that we /
are under the Neces+sity of applying to You for /
your kind Advice, and as we and many of our /
Brother Settlers; have already experienced the Be=nifits /
arising from your kind Attention toward us. /
We beg leave to state to you Sir, that being informed /
that Government had provided Stores for our Ac=commodation /
to be purchased at Prime Cost /
We requested M\r/ Tho\s../ Owen to procure us a few /
Neces+sary Articles. such as Soap. Sugar 7+c 7+c_ /
He has refused to sign any Receipt; unles+s we /
previously deposit the Money into his hands, /
which you are well aware Sir would occasion us /
great difficulty as we have secured no more de=posit /
Money, on which Account we must be /
deprived of these most neces+sary Articles whilst /
other enjoy them. .. We have applied to you Sir, res=ting /
entirely on your Kindnes+s, to inform and /
as+sist us, in which manner we had better pro=ceed; /
we avail ourselves also of this Opportunity
of as+suring you, that we are endevouring to do /
>
all in our Power to cultivate our Land and to /
forward the Wishes of Government, but unfor=tunately /
as Individuals are not able to make /
such rapid progresses as those Parties who com=bine /
together /
Resting solely on your kindnes+s /
We Remain /
Sir /
Your humble Obd\t/ 7+ Obliged /
Signed for the Party Servants /
